Need to work on addition and writing number sentences. This is a great game! My students LOVE playing Reach for the Stars!!!
Materials needed: dice (1-6), game pieces or markers for game, pencil
*1 – 5 players
Students roll the dice and move their counter the number of spaces that they roll. The number that they land on will then be recorded on the first blank of the data sheet. Next, like the example, the student will write a plus sign in the next blank.
Next, the second player will repeat this process until all players have had one turn.
When it is the first player’s turn again, they will roll and move the number of spaces on the dice. They will add the number they land on to the first number and record it as an equation on the data sheet. (i.e. the third blank is their second turn, the fourth blank is the equals sign, and the fifth blank is the total)
To reinforce the addition equation, students use the star counters to represent each equation.
After all players have crossed the “sky” finish line, students will count up the star counters they collected. The player with the most wins!
