Make parent communication a breeze with these simple Read 180 software minutes sheets that you can send home for parent contact. I teach 6th grade Read 180, so parent communication is an important part of my Reader's Success.
Teaching Read 180 is an art. There are so many pages of data to analyze, tests to give and then analyze, small groups to manage, rotating stations to control, and independent student work to manage, all while you are focused on teaching a small group.
When running my Read 180 reports, I have found that students will occasionally stop engaging with the software. They are provided with 20-30 minutes of software time per day, but I will sometimes see on task minutes as low as 2-9 minutes per session. What this tells me is that students have stopped working, or are spending time elsewhere in the world of the internet.
In comes the data reports. I run a report every few days to get a feel of how much time they have spent on task, and then I conference with students. Sometimes this helps, and sometimes it doesn't. SO I take the next step and write a simple note home to parents to let them know that their Reader has been off task or not focusing on their work in class. Making that parent contact has made all the difference in my students on task work in the software zone!
