Does your reading instruction have an equal balance between informational text and literary text? Experts in the field of Common Core State Standards reported that a very small percentage of what is read (Kdg – 5th Gr.) is informational text. It was our decision to search for better ways to teach and learn using informational text. This product is an outcome of our efforts. We started with Steven Jenkins’ fascinating book filled with large, colorful collages and descriptions showing unusual ways animals protect themselves.
Engaging activities in this product strengthens listening, critical thinking, vocabulary and writing.
You will find prereading activities, manipulatives to use during reading, and written responses after reading to check for understanding.
Great way to introduce nonfiction reading in 2nd grade.
Listening will be included in CCSS testing in 3rd grade. Look for the book in your library ask your librarian to order through interlibrary loan.
