Global citizenship nurtures respect for others, while encourages individuals to think deeply and critically about what is just, and what will minimize harm to our planet. And it’s inhabitants. Global Citizenship themes help learners grow more confident in standing up for their beliefs and more skilled in evaluating the ethics and impact of their decisions.
As Global Citizen we are:
• socially and culturally linked through the media & travel
• economically through trade & business
• environmentally through sharing of one planet
• politically through international relations & regulation
Reading Around the World using diverse literature (both fiction and nonfiction) is a simple way to expose students to issues of global interdependence, cultural diversity, sustainability, peace & conflict, inequities of power, resources & respect.
Reading diverse literature is critical when encouraging children to explore, develop, and express their own values by assessing evidence, negotiating with peers, problem solving, and make informed decisions.
