Eureka Math and EngageNY Math include Application Problems and word problems as part of most lessons in each module. Students are expected to follow the “Read, Draw, Write” process.
I created these posters to serve as a reference for students when I model the problem solving process. I included a visual for each step of the process to remind students of what they need to do. I display one of these posters in my classroom and refer to it as we complete the Application Problems and word problems together.
I copy the poster (4 to a page), laminate, and tape one to students’ math folders as well as their homework folders. Students use their personal mini poster as they work independently and with a partner.
Grades K-2 posters include addition and subtraction operations. Grades 3-4 posters include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division operations.
I included color and black and white versions. You could copy these onto colored paper and laminate.
Additionally, I included two versions for Steps 3 and 4 of the Read, Draw, Write process. For Step 3, you can either choose the version that states, “Write a Number Sentence” or “Write an Equation.” For Step 4, you can choose either, “Write a Word Sentence” or “Write a Statement.”
I hope you find this product useful!
