This activity is an excellent addition to your independent Word Work station for sight word practice. It may also be used for small group intervention or during guided reading as a way to introduce high-frequency words that will be encountered in the text.
In this activity, students will select a word card, read the word, and place it at the top of the work mat. Next, using letter manipulatives (i.e., magnetic letters, letter tiles, letter stones, letter beads/pipe cleaners, etc.) the student will build the word. Lastly, using a dry erase marker, the student will practice printing the sight word at the bottom of the work mat.
