So often during independent reading, students skim through a book without really considering the content. Who among us hasn't had a student who was stuck at a reading level simply because of lack of comprehension? I searched my brain for ways to address it, and this is what I created.
The Read Like You Mean It! reading comprehension guide asks students to state and explain the main idea. Students also list one thing in their reading that surprised them, as well as one question they have about their reading. My students are expected to complete one of these sheets 2-3 times a week. It's a great way to boost comprehension and get those kiddos thinking about what they read!
