These Read Like a Detective passages were developed because I needed a way to teach each of these standards with comprehension questions. My district has modeled their assessments for primary students after the PARCC frameworks so my students need a lot of practice with these types of evidence based multiple-choice questions.
As an ELA curriculum writer for my district, I have scoured the internet for resources to teach the Reading Literature and Reading Informational text standards. There is almost nothing for primary students!
These 10 texts will allow students to practice retelling text with key details. There are 5 literary texts and 5 informative/explanatory texts including a how-to and a recipe. These passages will also allow students to justify with evidence from the text.
Here is what is included in the pack:
-10 lexiled passages that focus on RL.2& RI.2
The Camping Trip
The Red Car
Kate and Ben
How to Make a Mask
Fruit Octopus Recipe
Tree to Paper
How do Spiders Eat?
What Makes a Rainbow?
