Teach children the importance of sentences!
Writing / Grammar, Punctuation and Vocabulary Lesson
Write the simple sentence on the board (I-am-in- kindergarten) to introduce students to show and see what a sentence looks like. Tell the students “a sentence is a group of words that tell us something or express an idea”. Discuss what the above sentence is telling us.
On a piece of cardboard show students random words on each card e.g. I - am- a- girl. Allow a group of students to hold the cards and read the words out to them. Tell them that these words are just words when they are separated, but when we bring them close together they express an idea and tell us something. This is called a sentence. Point to words on a card and read out sentences to the class.
Students complete a trace, cut. Paste and read worksheet. Students are modeled the worksheet and asked to trace and un-jumble the sentence ‘I am in kindergarten’
