I like to start the school year introducing my students to what being gifted can be all about... the good and the not so good qualities that often come with giftedness. Odd Boy Out, a picture book by Don Brown about the life of Albert Einstein, provides a great look at a character most of us already know. Before this book, I never knew much about Albert's childhood. But after reading it, I felt that my students could really benefit from hearing about the struggles that even someone as brilliant and admired as Albert Einstein has faced.
This Reading and Writing Activity includes:
-a procedure for teachers to consider or follow to a t. :)
-a simple example of a friendly letter
-a worksheet to review the parts of a friendly letter
-a web for collecting ideas and new information
-and a student-friendly rubric to assess the final writing sample
Unfortunately, I can not provide the book... you'll have to check the library for that!
