Here we have a set of Imitate-Reflect-Correct activities focusing on contemporary poetry written by American poet Molly Peacock.
This set focuses on creative writing to a particular theme, along with a focus on rhyme scheme, the sonnet form, and informal vs. formal language. This poetry/grammar activity packet also invites students to practice standard grammar in re-writing sentences for acceptable punctuation and usage of the eight parts of speech.
In assigning students to compose their own poetry, we are urging students to move into the Common Core Standards of 21st Century Skills, including communication, creativity, and critical thinking; they ALSO are being pushed into the higher levels of Bloom's Taxonomy (eg. moving beyond basic comprehension to application, analysis, evaluation, AND synthesis/creating)!
This is a fun method to help our future college students to not only read higher-level contemporary poetry, but also to prepare for standardized testing by applying strong reading strategies and standard grammar/conventions.
Enjoy, and thank you for visiting my TpT store!
