Students will read and write in the travel genre as they learn about ancient rock art. Materials include
*A student reader in 2 versions: grades 3-4, and grades 5-6. The reader is written as a Tour Guide, and contains articles on ancient rock art, famous rock art sites in the world, and hotel and restaurant listings. Two worksheets aid in comprehension and understanding. There is a computer version, and a print version of each Tour Guide.
*Ten "Point of Interest" cards give students additional practice with the travel genre, provide information about 10 important rock art sites, and act as writing models. Students write their own "Point of Interest" article about an ancient site of rock art, for a class made Tour Guide. A teaching poster is included to help students identify and understand all the parts of a "Point of Interest" article.
*Research and writing worksheets help students move through the writing process.
*Vocabulary bookmarks and study cards give students multiple resources in learning and practicing unit specific words.
*A computer template is provided for students' completion of their final copies.
*A world map (11X17) enables students to write their map locator number on a sticky dot, and identify the location of their "Point of Interest".
