We all know that it is important for children to read "just right" books that provide an appropriate challenge - but it is sometimes difficult to motivate some students to read. This year we started using the "Read a Rainbow" reading incentive in our classroom and it has made a world of difference in student motivation.
You can read about it in some detail at this blog post.
Read a Rainbow
In brief, every time students finish a book they add a small paper book to a Book Ribbon and, upon collecting specified numbers of books, can add small ribbons in rainbow colors to a book mark and to a bulletin board card. The result is not only an effective display but every child wants to get a full rainbow of ribbons and join the Bookshelf of Fame!
This has been tremendously successful in my classroom so I thought I would share it.
This resource is NOT editable (due to the clip art that is used) but you can hand write student names onto the bookmarks and bulletin board cards.
I hope your students enjoy it as much as mine do!
