Product Description
Good readers are able to read the words, think about what they are reading, and respond to questions about what they are reading.

This is the message that I send to my students and parents each night as part of their reading/writing homework. Although it is incredibly important for a student to read on a regular basis, it is equally important that they work on reading comprehension as part of the process. After all, most students are evaluated by standardized tests and reading comprehension is a key part of that.

Each night after reading for a specified amount of time (grade level/student appropriate), students should be tracking their thinking. Sentence starters are provided if they need help getting their thoughts started. Students are expected to write a minimum amount of sentences (grade level/student appropriate).

This routine/homework activity is great to start at the beginning of the school year. It can also be solely used as an intervention for your struggling readers and writers. Parents often want to help, but don't know how. This easy-to-follow document helps guide parents in their discussion with their readers.

In this product, you will get 4 variations of the same reading log:

1. The minimum amount of time for reading and amount of sentences for responses have already been programmed in. (20 minutes and 2-3 sentences.)

2. The minimum amount of time for reading and amount of sentences for responses have been left for YOU to decide for your individual students.

3. The minimum amount of time for reading and amount of sentences for responses have been left for YOU to decide for your individual students AND an additional line has been added for students to record the genre of what they are reading. *Ideal for grades 3 and up.

4. The minimum amount of time for reading and amount of sentences for responses have been left for YOU to decide for your individual students. This log has less lines and larger space for writing. *Ideal for primary grades.
