This collection of informative text is created to give young readers an opportunity to read informative text and respond to it. It is aligned to the Common Core National Standards and gives teachers the perfect tool to use as a writing prompt for students. There are five comprehension questions for each passage of text. Students are also given the opportunity to write additional questions they may have about the topic after reading, which may be used to assess comprehension. This packet of text incorporates the following text features: a bold heading, factual information, a picture, and a caption. This collection includes one passage about April Fool's Day, one passage about thunderstorms, one passage about ladybugs, and one passage about honeybees. My students have added details to the picture and labeled parts in order to increase their understanding of each text. For example, on the picture of the bee, they drew a flower underneath the bee and wrote, "pollinates flowers." This packet includes a color-coded answer key which highlights where in the text each answer is found. It is a perfect collection of text for the month of April. This collection reinforces the concept of "proving your answers" with evidence from the text, and drawing conclusions through inferencing.
