Any Subject, Any Source, Anywhere!!!!!! As Common Core hits us it is even more important for students to be able to anaylze reading sources: articles, textbooks, novels, website etc....
This is a great printable that will work for ANY source: Newspapers, Magazines, novel, Science textbook, Social Studies textbook, Physical Education article, Art it doesn't matter.
This will force students to think and perform at a higher level in their written responses by making them create a thesis statement and support it with evidence. Students are required to then analyze their evidence. Choices are given to students on how they can analyze their evidence. The organizer structures their reponse in such a way that requires the student to provide the evidence and then provide analysis of that evidence. One of the most difficult things for students to master in my opinion.
I like to keep copies of this, cause and effect response sheets and personal reflection sheets handy. When students are finished with work early in my Social Studies class they are required to grab a newspaper, read an article and complete one of the response sheets. My partner that teaches reading requires them to fill out a response sheet as proof they read out of a book of their choice for homework. It allows the student to pick any book they want to read for homework, but asks them to complete the same tasks.
