This document contains a 5 question exemplar asking students to read and write numbers using their understanding of place value. They are asked to compose numbers with given digits in a given place, write them in three ways (standard, expanded, and word form) and compare the value of a digit based on its place. The rubric is aligned to the 4th grade common core standards. I used this as the beginning of the year bulletin board! It was also extremely helpful to see who needed help in which areas in regards to reading and writing numbers up to hundred thousands.
