This is an illustrated Spanish story for beginners written by Bryce Hedstrom. Each week put a new page from the story (springboard for classroom discussion) up on your wall. Spend about 5-10 minutes a day reviewing the language structures on the page. Ask yes/no, either/or and short answer questions. For instance with the sentence "There is a girl" you can ask "Is there a girl?" "Is there a girl or a boy?" "What is there?" Ask more involved questions as the week goes on. Relate the questions to your students. Ask "Who is a girl?" "Is she a girl?" "Am I a girl?" Expand the conversation using objects, pictures or books.
If you want free expansion activities, download the iOS app--Storylabs. La Chica Quiere Chocolate Caliente can be read aloud with the text-to-speech functionality of the app. There are also reading games, links to conversing with native speakers, a journal and Quizlet flashcards.
