Do you use independent reading or a "read to self" center in your upper elementary classroom? One of the biggest struggles with independent reading is holding kids accountable
when many of them are reading different books! This product was created to do just that! It is a fun and engaging way
to asses independent reading! This is a NO PREP
product! This means you can print and go!
What grade is this appropriate for?
This is a very versatile product. It is appropriate for grades 3-6!
How does it work?
There are two options: a "menu" version and a task card version. Leave the menu or task cards at your center (or pass the menu version out to students individually) for them to choose activities.
1. They must choose one "appetizer" as a before reading
activity. Example: writing about the genre of the book and how knowing the genre can help the reader understand the book.
2. They must choose two
"entrees" as a while reading
activity. Example: "setting sandwich" activity.
3. They must choose one dessert activity as an after reading
activity. These are "mini projects". Example: Cherry on Top Children's Book.
These activities were created to be self-guided-- students can do them independently as center work (or even work in a small group or literature circle group!)
EVERYTHING you need! This product includes a menu version, task card version, rubric, and all of the worksheets you need! Just print and go!
Because there are so
many options, this is a product that can be used as center work, early finisher work, or even projects ALL YEAR LONG
