These learning and language targets are a bit different from the ones in the Blended Learning Handbook for Read180. I have made them more accessible for students to understand, especially towards the beginning of the year.
Our district uses learning and language targets for each lesson. We think of them as :
learning- what the student will learn about or learn how to do
language : what the student will produce (orally, written, etc. . . .) to show that they’ve mastered the learning target .
When introducing the targets for the day, I always say “Okay what are we learning today?” Students respond by reading the learning target. Then I follow it up with “How are you going to show that you know how to do that?” They respond by reading the language target.
P.S. Some of the language targets are simple because within the learning target is what they are producing (lI can earn how to write a paragraph, I can write a paragraph)
