PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Hi! My name is Kate Bailey, and my store is called "Get EnglishEd." (Get it? :))

The following product is a Reader Response Project for the novel __13 Reasons Why__ by Jay Asher. It asks students to take on the persona of a character from the novel and do journal entries for "A Day in the Life."

This product includes:
1) The project rationale
2) The assignment description
3) The scoring guide
4) A sample product (written by me)

Now, this project was created for __13 Reasons Why__ but could be EASILY adapted for any novel out there! This is a fun creative writing activity that asks students to explore characterization and narrative. I found that it was fun to assign, fun to write, and fun to grade!

You do not have to do tons of instruction on this as long as the kids have already been introduced to characterization. You just introduce the assignment, go over the sample, and let the kids write! Go around the classroom and make sure everyone is on task, understands the activity and purpose, and give feedback on writing. I would give three days in class from introduction of the assignment to turning it in.
