We all know we want kids reading at home. How do we KNOW that they are reading, and actually understand it; let alone get anything out of it? I created a simple template that includes academic language and several different student friendly activities for a Reading Log. Students read. They enter their information in the Quantity Table, which includes start time, end time, total minutes read and total pages read (this way you have them working with time, tables for data, subtraction, and you can hold them accountable becuase we all know nobody reads 50 pages in 3 minutes!). Then they choose one of a few activities about the book. They complete the activity right on the page. No activity can be completed twice.
I have a few frinds that actually use this as an in-class way of tracking independent reading too. Enjoy!
