What educators are saying

This was a great resource and my 8th graders found it very engaging. They appreciated the graphics that were more in line with their age group. Thanks for sharing this resource!

Description

Here’s a digital reading response journal that students will find both motivating and enjoyable! You keep students accountable for independent reading while they respond on colorful slides to discuss key events and their reactions. Perfect for distance learning when students read independent novels at home.

The Reader’s Journal assignment requires a reader to divide the novel into 5 approximately equal segments using sticky notes. Then the reader stops at each interval to recall key events and provide reactions for that section of the book. A list of 8 response topics is provided on the slide, and students are asked to choose 3 to guide their discussion.

Included are 2 versions: A double-sided slide version where events and reactions are recorded side-by-side AND a single-sided slide version where events and reactions are recorded on separate slides with larger fonts, larger student response area, and easier viewing.

I love using the Reader’s Journal for my Reading Workshop! Students are able to truly engage in reading, and they are excited to get to the end of the section so they can type their responses. Even struggling readers find success because they can recall events and express reactions while that part of the book is still fresh in their minds.

NOTE: This resource is for use with Google Drive or Microsoft One Drive. You can find a paper version of the Reader’s Journal as one of three options in my
