After a whole group mini-lesson about making predictions, I would give each student a bookmark and a few post-its to use while they are reading independently. It would serve as a reminder to record their thinking about predictions before, during, and after their reading.
While my students are reading independently, I meet with them for individual conferences to create goals tailored to their strengths and weaknesses. I found it helpful for those students struggling with the predicting strategy to use this bookmark. The prompts guide their thinking throughout their reading, so they can feel successful with their goal!
