I created this product so that my students could integrate technology with instruction, practice reading strategies and comprehension, and create a product that shows what their thinking and reflecting upon as they read. All material is aligned to CCSS for 4th, 5th, and 6th grade. I also want to make my students accountable for what they read, and by them completing this activity it shows me that they are reading independently.
It includes the following…
-Book assembly directions with photos and suggestions for use.
-2 different covers, one entitled read and illustrate and the other entitled scan and read with a QR code. Use the read and illustrate for any fictional text.
-6 different QR codes that include stories from Literature websites. 3 are realistic fiction, 1 is a poem, and 2 are fairy tales, (Casey at Bat, Emperor’s New Clothes, The Save, Sonny with a Chance of Buckets, Jason’s Pumpkin, and The Cat and the Parrot) They vary in readability from 3.5 to 5.3 Flesch-Kincaid which would be about 600-1000 lexile. This would benefit 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students.
-10 different pages for the inside of the booklet that focus on reading strategies and comprehension. (connecting, imagery, summarizing, questioning, vocabulary, analysis, characterization, setting, synthesizing, and reflection)
-Website Reference and QR code directions.
I hope this is something you can use in your classroom.
All material belongs to NLarocca and is for single classroom use only.
