This is a flipchart lesson that guides the students on how to write a 4 paragraph reader's response to Margery Cuyler's "Hooray for Reading Day!"
This lesson will walk the students through writing a reader's response (or response to literature) step by step, one paragraph at a time: introductory paragraph, summary paragraph, theme and connection paragraph, and the conclusion. There are examples that I wrote for each paragraph followed by a slide that will break down the requirement for that paragraph so that they may write it on their own.
I have included a reader's response template that goes with the flipchart. After showing my example of the paragraph, the following slide is a breakdown of what to include in the paragraph. When this slide is up, this is when I have the students write on the reader's response template to write their own paragraphs. Again, the paragraphs are reviewed one at a time.
This lesson is great for introducing this writing genre.
