Description
Animals to the Rescue! is an original play written for a mix of puppets & actors. It also includes a Readers' Theatre version, as well. It’s a fun way for kids to learn about animal adaptations, as well as survival tips when out in the wild.
The premise of this play: Some hikers have wandered away from their group and are now lost. They're scared, hungry, thirsty, and cold, and can't decide what to do. The woodland animals help them with survival tips and and a bit of advice on what to do until their High School Leader can find them.
The play lends itself well to a group of 10-14 students. I've included a flexible script version with unassigned hiker dialogue, so you can stretch it or shrink it according to your needs.
Readers' Theatre plays are excellent ways to improve fluency. This one has the added bonus of teaching students about survival in the wilderness, and is appropriate for grades 4-7!
