“Friendship” is the theme of this story, which is about a little puffin who is looking for a friend. She meets 5 arctic animals and eventually finds Polar Bear Cub who will be her friend. It is similar to popular pattern stories that kids are so fond of.
This readers theater is especially ideal for a small group. But it can easily be modified to suit the number of your readers.
Great practice for struggling readers!
Choose Version 1, or 2, color or grayscale:
This includes 2 versions to differentiate reading levels. The easier version (2) has images to signal reading parts and fewer words. Depending upon their reading level, you want to preview the –ing words prior to reading. Highlight reading parts for easy reading.
The 2 versions come in both color and black/white.
Research shows that performing a readers theater is an effective strategy for increasing fluency and comprehension. This is intended for independent readers as well as for those who are just gaining confidence. Children should be given the opportunity to read several times before performing. Repeated readings are part of the effectiveness of readers theaters.
I hope your students enjoy performing this story!
