PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Reader’s Theater Pack: Events Leading to the Civil War

At less than $1.00 per script, this pack includes 11 reader's theater scripts which can be used to teach or review events leading to the Civil War.

The scripts are short, giving a quick overview of each issue. They are written for about 2-3 students.

Topics include:
-Slavery
-Cultural Issues (Agriculture vs. Urbanization)
-Economic Issues (tariffs)
-Constitutional Issues (state vs. federal rights)
-Missouri Compromise
-Compromise of 1850
-Fugitive Slave Act
-Kansas-Nebraska Act
-Bleeding Kansas
-Lincoln's Election
-Ft. Sumter

Student volunteers can present a script to the class and then a discussion can follow. Another idea would be to give pairs of students scripts to practice, then they could act out in front of the class,in order, creating a dramatic timeline.

A graphic organizer is included for students to write about each event from a northern and southern perspective. This will encourage reflection upon each event.

Additionally, a homework sheet is provided to allow practice with the material.

Great for discussing cause and effect, practicing fluency, visualizing and really bringing history to life in your classroom.
