Here’s one of the oldest and most popular Christmas poems ever! "Twas The Night Before Christmas" has been rewritten as a readers' theater script by My Reading Resources with six speaking parts. It is also referred to as "A Visit From St. Nicholas" or "The Night Before Christmas." The text was written in the early 19th century. Though its author is disputed, with the poem being attributed to both Clement Clarke Moore and Henry Livingston Jr., it was first published on Dec. 23, 1823, in the Troy Sentinel newspaper in New York.
Students become excited about reading in readers’ theater. Help your students develop fluency by allowing multiple readings of this script. Encourage them to use expressiveness, intonation, and inflection when rehearsing the text. Readers’ theater provides an authentic reason for re-reading-(performing for an audience).
