The popular Christmas ballet originates in the children's story "The Nutcracker and the Mouse-King" by E.T.A. Hoffman. From story to ballet to the classroom, this Christmas Reader's Theater features a three act play with eight speaking parts based on the classic tale.
This script can be used for classroom read alouds, classroom performances, or can be easily adapted for a Christmas play on the stage.
Reader's Theater helps to develop fluency through repeated exposure to text, increase comprehension, integrate reading, writing, speaking, listening in an authentic context, engage students, increase reading motivation, create confidence and improve the self-image of students, provide a real purpose for reading, and provide opportunities for cooperative learning.
