This reader's theater is designed to address the Common Core ELA standard related to breaking apart and putting together compound words. While this standard is a second grade standard, we all know this skill can be taught in kinder through third (and often even reviewed in fourth!). This script is perfect for students in that age range and is intended to be an introduction to the concept of compound words. This reader's theater includes four parts with leveled parts so you can include students with various reading levels (levels are found on the teacher page). The parts are color coded for ease as students read, or the script can be printed in black and white and students can easily use highlighters. Following the reader's theater script is a brief compound word activity in which students make compound words from a list and work with the meanings. The extension activities you could do with this script are endless!
