I have adapted the story Sylvester and the Magic Pebble for a Reader's Theatre activity.
There are 6 parts:
I have included the 8 page script, vocabulary work page, and comprehension work page. The 8 page script is a stand alone activity for small groups. Throughout the script there are vocabulary words that will help expand student's own vocabulary. I underlined some of the words to bring attention to the rich vocabulary that the author originally used (paced, perplexed, hopeless, etc... I enjoyed the rich vocabulary in the story so much that I wanted my students to get more work with the different words and understand the meanings as well. There is also a comprehension activity to help students build on their text based evidence while reading.
My students absolutely LOVE Reader's Theatre and often beg to use it in our small reading groups or in their own Daily 5 groups.
Because of the vocabulary my suggestion is for 2nd grade or higher. However, this year my 1/2 combo class was able to read from it as well. I hope your students enjoy this as much as mine have.
