This is an original script that can be used for Reader's Theatre and/or a full class project. There are 20 characters but some can be played by multiple students and/or split up depending on your numbers. Feel free to adjust to your classroom needs.
It was written by the 4th and 5th grade One Voice Company at Shoal Creek Elementary School so it will resonate with students deeply. This company took a world issue (the importance of diversity and acceptance in todays changing world) and wrote an inspiring script of hope based on Joseph Campbell's 'A Hero's Journey' formula.
We offer it to you all in hopes that its much needed message will spread across schools everywhere.
This story takes our lead character on a beautiful journey through her imagination towards a world with unconditional acceptance. It uses archetype characters (villain, hero, friend, wise oracle, tricksters) and interesting plot twists to teach a valuable lesson and one that inspires us all. Your class will love working on this play.
This type of next generation learning project fills students with the valuable connection to their own creativity and we are grateful to the One Voice Company for this product.

This play was performed (approx. 40 min in length) for many audiences already and we hope students enjoy stretching their creativity, making this story their own, and bringing these characters to life many more times through various voices, bodies, costumes, and play!
