This product is aligned with the Journeys Grade 2 Readers' Workshop curriculum, but can be used to supplement any grade level and/or other reading programs. I created this product to be used to model my thinking during the mini lesson of Readers' Workshop, then to be copied for students to complete during their independent reading. Students are able to use their graphic organizers to assist them during conferring, and to show what they know about the reading strategies being taught.
I suggest printing one set in color to laminate and store on a ring. These can be used with a mentor text to model and erased to use year after year.
I also print a set in black and white and copy a class set each week corresponding with the lesson or skill I am teaching.
Each page includes the minilesson principle, a place for the student to include the name of their independent reading book and its genre, as well as a graphic organizer relevant to the reading strategy.
Example minilesson principles include:
-Readers notice how authors tell which story events happen first, next, and last.
-Readers think about how things are the same and how they are different.
-Readers think about how authors sometimes write to give information.
-Readers notice when one event makes another event happen.
-Readers think about important events in the story.
-Plus 25 more!
There are a total of 30 lessons. A few are repetitive, as this is a cyclical reading program, but the organizer or wording may look/sound a little different.
