This is a readers' workshop notebook I made. It is cute and colorful. It has 10 pages (word doc), but several of the pages I copied many times, and I also added lined paper copies in there so the student and myself can write each other letters, so it ended up being about 50 pages long. I also I have the little binding machine that I use to make the spiral notebooks (one for each student in Septemeber). They are too big to staple so you really have to bind them and copy them on hole punched paper. This notebook has a page that explains the genre, a genre reading goal, a reading log to record their books, how to give a book talk, how to write a friendly letter, and a letter example, words and phrases I am learning, for them to record any new word they had to look up or learn, and a page to remind them how to do open ended responses. I keep it simple, and I teach them an easy way to remember open ended responses. This notebook is simple, yet handy and the kids were using them everyday when we were following the reading workshop and guided reading model. Feel free to edit this, and add your own pages.
