This 1-page sheet can be taped into a student's Reading Response Notebook (front cover works great). It is the perfect reminder of various ways to start a reading response or a short "stop and jot".
The sheet is divided into 10 boxes, each focusing on a different reading strategy and the various comments these might lead a student to write about in their notebook.
Example: If you've just taught inferring, you can direct students to look at the INFER box, which has sentence starters such as:
"I think the character is feeling/thinking ___ because in the book it says..."
"The character is saying ___, but I think what she/he really means is..."
Or in the "Focus on Character" box, students can be prompted to finish these starters:
"This character reminds me of ____ because..."
"My favorite character is ____ because..."
"I like/don't like ____ because..."
"If I could ask ___ one question, it would be..."
And many more!
The 10 boxes cover these strategies:
