Reading A-Z NWEA Supplement Questions and Written Response (Level M Stories)
Product Description
Reading A-Z NWEA type questions for 5 different level M stories. There are about 15 questions for each of the 5 stories. The questions are a variety of multiple choice, written response, and performance task type questions. An answer key is provided for each question. A editable Word version and PDF version is available for each set of questions.

***Important*** The product does not include the 5 stories that are referenced. The stories are the property of Reading A-Z and you need an active account (probably through your school) to access and download them. My product is just additional questions to expand the depth you explore each story with your students. The stories are NOT included. You must download them from www.readinga-z.com.

Many of the questions are challenging and are much more difficult than the reading level of the Reading A-Z books. They are intentionally difficult to help prepare students for the types of questions they will see when they advance beyond a NWEA RIT score range of 180. Most students will need some assistance, so these questions should be discussed as a class either after everyone has attempted them or as a small group activity.

I teach middle school students with many academic difficulties and the problem I run into is that the A-Z stories fit the students reading level but the questions and practice activities are too easy for my students comprehension. Without supplementation, I go through a story, questions, and quiz in 2 days or less. With the addition of these questions I find it extends the lesson by at least 2 more days. I've created these questions to better align with the reasoning skills of upper elementary and middle school students while still using 2nd-3rd grade level reading materials for struggling readers.

The multiple choice questions very closely model the types of NWEA questions students saw on the 2016-2017 MAP tests and will continue to see in the years to come. The written response questions help students dive deeper into the source materials, incorporate their own thinking, and to practice writing paragraphs using evidence. Each question set has one large essay questions where they need to incorporate what they learned from the story with their own thinking to write a short essay and draw a picture about it.

You'll need Adobe Reader and or Microsoft Word to access all the files in this product.
