This version has a Table of Contents that allows learners to navigate between the readings. 68 slides of 5 reading texts and self-marking comprehension questions to assess the level of English reading comprehension ranging from beginners to advanced.
There are 5 reading tasks for learners to complete.
• A simple form
• A short personal information text
• A short narrative
• An advertisement
• A short report which is compared with the advertisement
Each text is followed by a few questions and question types include multiple choice, short answer, matching and sequencing questions.
Based on the ISLPR (International Second Language Proficiency Rating) learners can get an idea on what kind of text types, vocabulary and language they understand between the 0+ to 1+ range.
At the end of each reading task learners receive advice on whether they should study at a beginner, intermediate or advanced level. They also receive information on whether they understand
• Basic personal information and vocabulary
• Simple sentences and questions
• Grammatical features
• The language in a simple story
• Complex sentences
• The context of word meanings
Note that the total result of the readings at the end will depend on the completion of all 5 readings.
For a more comprehensive assessment they are advised to speak with their teacher but this interactive reading assessment could be a start in helping them self-assess their reading skills and think about what to do next.
ABOUT THE QUIZ
This quiz was created using Adobe Captivate. There are three file choices: as an .htm file, an Adobe Acrobat Document or as a Shockwave File Object. I recommend using the .htm file. It can be viewed in Google Chrome, IE or Firefox. If you use the other files then you need the latest and up to date Adobe Acrobat Reader and Flash Player to view the interactive quiz. If you choose the latter files then it is possible to view it with a swiff player. General features of the quiz are.
• Choices are automatically marked
• Overall results are displayed at the end
• Responses can be reviewed at the end.
• 1 point allocated for each correct answer
• 80% or more of total points is a total pass
• answers reviewed at end.
The quiz can be displayed for a whole class activity or it could be uploaded online for individual student use. It is also possible to print the text and questions.
TIPS ON OPENING THIS FILE
Double check the TPT instructions on how to unzip in case there's a small detail that has been missed. This site also has useful tips on opening a zipped .swf file at wikihow.Open SWF files
You may also want to try the free resources in my store first.
Other things to check is whether your flash player is up-to-date in your browser and whether it works in a different browser. I've tested them in the following browsers.
In IE, check these instructions at Flash player issues windows 10
In Chrome, try this extension at flashplayer.fullstacks
and choose the file from your computer in order to view it online. Make sure you adjust the width and height you prefer.
In IE, download this free SWIFF player at globfx/downloads/swfplayer
. It works very nicely with the IE swf file as a stand-alone option.
In Firefox, check the information on this page to make sure Flash is working at support.mozilla/install flash plugin
