These activities were designed to give teachers a quick assessment tool for the entire class to use the first few days of school. Students won’t even know they are being assessed!
These ten different assessments are by no means meant to replace formal assessments! I created these because I like to get an idea of my new students’ levels as soon as possible so I can start individualizing and differentiating. I typically have many students who are new to the district and lacking records. We also all know students may gain or lose information over the summer. It’s helpful to keep the individual checklists as well as individual assessments for students’ files to see their growth.
I added some fun activities that can be done whole group, with partners or in centers. You do not have to use Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready For Kindergarten, or There’s a Zoo in Room 22 but I have found that students love these books, the rhyming words, the alphabetizing and the animals!
I have also included the same assessments and activities without the book titles at the end of this pack.
