This assignment is three parts:
1. Vocabulary. Students are invited to find their own vocabulary words as they are reading.
2. Personal Reflection- This question makes student focus on themselves and relate to the characters in the story.
3. Characterization- This offers students the chance to be artistic (or stick to a tradition paragraph). Students have to find phrases relevant to the character in the text and use them to provide a visualization for the character (either via an actor or by drawing!)
Rubrics, teacher's notes and examples are provided for all three sections.
This could be done in class, but normally I assign it as homework and give students a week to complete it.
It is provided as a PDF to maintain the layout, but if you purchase it and want the original word document contact me so you can adapt it to your needs!
While this was designed for ELL (EFL, ESL) to use with Stephen King's novella The Body it could be used for any literary text at any level capable of paragraph writing.
