These guided notes will get your student reading big numbers with fluency through the hundred millions place. The lesson starts with reading a 3 digit number and slowly builds from there. The lesson begins with teacher lead examples, then students practice in partners, and finally on their own. The independent component of this lesson is broken into three levels: easy, medium, and hard. This ensures that all learners will feel successful and challenged simultaneously.
1) Write 567,802 in word form.
2) How would seventeen million, eighteen thousand be written in standard form?
3) Read this number to your partner: 57,802,099
-Teacher-Lead Practice Set
-Independent Practice (in three levels: easy, medium, and hard)
-Answer Keys for everything
This lesson was written for Fifth grade, but my students start out below grade level so it is probably best for Third or Fourth grade. Fifth or Sixth grade teachers could definitely use it as a review lesson.
