Throughout the school year, our students have a goal to read a minimum of 25 books. In order to promote literature, we want to provide them with as much choice as possible. This Reading Bingo was designed to help students track the books that they read, offer choice in their reading selections and expose them to the various genres of literature.
After they complete a book, the students are allowed to add the book to their Reading Bingo Boards. The students in my classroom then turn in their boards for me to "Check In". This "Check In" helps me keep track of their book totals and visually see that they are marking the genres of literature correctly. I check to see if the books are properly recorded and I then highlight the boarder of the box with a highlighter to indicate that it has been "Checked In". Therefore, by the end of the year, all of the students’ boards are highlighted as well. They LOVE to see their boards get highlighted and colorful.
In addition, the students also bring their Reading Bingo Boards to our reading conferences. I use the boards as a springboard for discussion and to help navigate them to new books.
This board can easily be modified to meet the needs of your classroom. You can adjust the boxes, add more rows or delete rows. ENJOY!
