No more "sound it out"! This bookmark lists things readers can do when they get stuck on a word. It encourages readers to think about what makes sense, what sounds right and what looks right. When students cross check meaning, structure and visual cues they can figure out tricky words more effectively and efficiently.
This bookmark can be used to support whole group reading instruction. It can also be kept in students reading folders and be used during independent reading, guided reading and/or strategy groups. It can also be sent home with parents. At our school we used them for family literacy nights. We taught parents how to support their readers by using prompts from the bookmark.
