Reading by Reading: Short Vowels Segment 1 is a phonetic reading program for beginning or struggling readers. The child will learn to read by manipulating letters to form decodable words, reading short decodable stories, dramatizing the stories and drawing and writing about them. Reading by Reading has three distinct components: blending, reading and writing. This multi-sensory, hands-on approach allows the child to be actively involved in the reading process.
Segment 1 is an introduction to blending and reading words with the short vowel sounds. All the decodable words begin with the vowel or the letter Bb. These five units provide a foundation of blending short vowel words.
Twenty four lessons are included in this segment. Each lesson includes a teacher’s instruction sheet containing the blending activity, the story and comprehension questions, a phonetic sheet, a sight word practice sheet when applicable, and the student’s reading and drawing sheet. At the end of the unit, props for the dramatization of the story and word cards are included.
Reading by Reading: Short Vowels is a complete reading curriculum with very minimal preparation. It is effective with both beginning and struggling readers. It is perfect for homeschools because simple, detailed lesson plans are included. Reading by Reading: Short Vowels may be used in either individualized, small group or classroom instruction. The reading sheets, phonetic sheets and the sight word practice sheet may, also, be used in a workstation or for independent work.
