This is a great activity for Pre-K and Kindergarten students learning to read. It may also be helpful for some beginner first grade students who are having difficulty reading. Students will point to each word as they read it. The dots under each word are for that purpose.
Students will read each sentence with sight and color words and a picture. The sentences show repetition of the sight and color words selected to give students a much needed memorization for sight and color words. Sight words are just that - words that students should be able to recognize when they see the word. There are 7 different sets of sentences with 1 set of 33 sentences including 3 different pictures (fox, pig, and elephant - Ex. I can see a red fox, I can see a red pig, I can see a red elephant) in each of the 11 colors. Then the next 6 sets include the same phrase of words with each color (I am a red alligator, I am a blue alligator, I am a yellow alligator, etc.) in each set with all 11 colors. That is a total of 99 cards! Sentences include the following: I can see....; I am a...; Look at the...; He is a...; His __ is...; We have a ...; and That penguin was...
The selected sight words are: a, am, at, can, have, he, his, I, is, look, see, that, the, was, we
There is a cover card and direction card included if you want to place each set in a ring. There is also an answer key included to name the pictures.
You can print, laminate, cut apart and put a ring in the top left corner to make a small book. You can print off several sets to use with your small groups. Whichever way you use them, your students will get that repetition that is needed to learn the different sight words.
