Research has shown that if students are held accountable to track their own progress in different areas then they will take ownership in it! Why should we assume this would be any different for our young readers. This product was designed with the idea of helping readers become self-motivated and regulated. Students log the books they are reading, the dates they complete books, and then they color the number of books as they go. This allows them to have a visual representation of their reading progress in their binders or spirals. Teachers can periodically check these, and help students set goals for themselves as they progress through the year!
There are a few different ways to use this product.
-You can make this a challenge to motivate students to read in the classroom.
-You can use this to push individual students in their guided reading levels to chose books that will progressively allow them to read higher levels.
-You can also make this a read-at-home challenge that they complete on their own time with an incentive of your choice.
-You can use some of the smaller 10 book challenges to try to vary the type of books your students are reading.
-For your reluctant readers, you can use the individual chapter book challenges to allow them to see their immediate progress as they read.
