A reading to help scholars learn about characteristic properties of matter! I use this in my class after an investigation on density, during which scholars see that no matter the size of a piece of aluminum, its density will be the same - 2.7 grams per cubic centimeter. The first three pages of the resource are text; the final page is a homework assignment.
This text sets up further study of chemical reactions, in alignment with the NGSS standard MS-PS1-2; students must analyze and interpret data on the properties of substances before and after the substances interact to determine if a chemical reaction has occurred. In other words, if the characteristic properties change, a chemical reaction occurred, because you no longer have the same substance!
NOTE: Don't be scared off by the PowerPoint! It's how I format all of my class materials.
