This is a great reading product that can be used in a variety of ways! A teacher can use parts of the product together or independently. Included in this product are the following reading resources:
Reading Codes: A reference tool that students can use during guided reading, independent reading, or on their reading homework. A list of "codes" is given for students to jot down their thinking on a post-it or in a reading response journal. These codes reinforce the concept that good readers should be thinking as they read and checking for understanding.
Reading Log: The homework or independent reading tracker reinforces the concept of thinking as you read with the same codes as given on the reference tool. Students track their reading for three days using reading codes and writing a sentence to describe their thought/code.
Reading Response Letter: The friendly letter can be printed on the back of the reading log as an added component to reading homework each week or it can be a seperate assignment. Students are directed to write a letter about their reading. In the letter students should summarize the plot of the text and then explain thoughts they had as they read.
Friendly Letter Format: A reference tool to the layout and formatting of a friendly letter.
Blank Friendly Letter Template: Paper designed to write a friendly letter that can be used in reading or for other assignments. The paper has no directions it simply outlines the format for a friendly letter.
