This packet includes five ten-question "quizzes" on the popular novel "Prisoner B-3087" by Alan Gratz. If you're teaching literature circles (for example, Unit 3 of the 8th grade SpringBoard ELA textbook), these reading comprehension questions are the perfect way to hold students individually accountable for their reading assignments. These pages could be used as a test/quiz, as a collaborative in-class exercise, as an open-book activity to aid the reading process, or as homework. I have used them as weekly individual quizzes and also as a collaborative activity. The majority of the questions are level 1 and level 2, with one or two higher-level questions per quiz. As a multiple-choice assessment, the goal of this assignment is to ascertain whether the student read with intent and thought - students are unlikely to pass the quizzes if they only skimmed the passage.
The five 10-question quizzes each correspond to a reading assignment that is 3 or 4 chapters long, so each reading assignment is approximately 40 pages. The first page of this packet is an optional cover page, which splits the novel into five reading assignments by chapter. On this page, guide your students as they write down the pages they are to read for each assignment and the date of the upcoming quizzes.
The final page of this packet is a teacher answer key.
